Common faults and precautions of optical module

Like other optical fiber products, optical modules will also encounter some common faults. This article will analyze them from four aspects and explain the cleaning of optical modules in general.

1、 Common faults before optical module installation

1. The optical module port is polluted, which will cause the optical module not to work properly.

There is foreign matter in the optical module port. It can be clearly seen through the naked eye that the fault optical port is blocked by white foreign matter, and the optical module is damaged due to the broken fiber jumper lead post in the optical module.

2. The optical fiber patch cord is polluted or the inferior optical fiber patch cord is used, resulting in the optical module port being polluted.

The optical module damaged in the process of fiber pulling and plugging using the uncapped non-standard optical fiber connector. The optical fiber jumper has not been used for a long time without protective measures, and the optical fiber jumper connector is covered with dust. The optical module port is polluted during use.

3. The gold finger conductive metal of the optical module is missing, causing the optical module to be unable to use normally.

The conductive metal of the gold finger of the unqualified optical module is missing, and the gloss is obviously insufficient.

4. The optical module is not inserted tightly, resulting in limited optical signal transmission, and the optical module cannot be used normally.

When the optical module is plugged in the equipment, it must be firmly plugged and the card lock must be in place. Otherwise, the optical module will break and loose in case of vibration and collision.

2、 Common cleaning methods for optical modules

The optical module is cleaned with cotton swabs, and the optical fiber port is cleaned with fiber wiping paper. The method to clean the optical fiber jumper connector with a cotton swab: insert the cotton swab into the optical port during cleaning, rotate it gently, and pay attention not to use too much force to avoid damaging the optical module.
